How to find us

Take a look at the directions on the Askham Bryan website.

There is extensive free parking at Askham Bryan.  Public transport is by Coastliner Buses numbers 840, 843 and 845, which all stop at Askham Bryan roundabout, about 6 or 7 minutes walk from the campus.  For details and timetables, go to www.yorkbus.co.uk.  Alternatively, taxis from York centre cost about £15 each way.

Rules

Rules relating to students' conduct while on campus are in place for students’ wellbeing and students should read the Rules. A copy will be posted at Askham Bryan. Students are responsible for ensuring that they have read and understood the Rules, and for complying with them.  Yorkshire Ballet Summer School reserves the right to send any student home who fails to comply with these Rules and will not be liable to refund any part of the fees paid in such circumstances. 

To the extent permitted by law, YBSS shall not be liable to any person for any damage or loss, whether of money or of property, arising from a failure by that person, or by any other person not employed by YBSS, to comply with the Rules. However, this shall not exclude or limit any liability for personal injury caused by the negligence of YBSS or its employees.

Accommodation

Accommodation at Askham Bryan College is en-suite. All bed linen is provided, but everyone should make his/her own bed and provide soap and towels. Students in residence will be under the supervision of specially appointed house persons and staff.

The Summer School schedule and rules will be on the notice board at Askham Bryan on the day of commencement. The rules of the Summer School must be strictly observed.

Arrival

Residents should arrive between 2pm and 4pm on the Saturday and should leave on Friday afternoon from 4pm onwards.  Non-residents should attend a talk given by the Director on Saturday at 4:30pm, otherwise assemble at 9am on Sunday. There are no classes on Saturdays.

Meals

Daily breakfast, lunch, coffee, afternoon tea and supper are included in the fees for Residential students only. Meals for non-Residents are available at itemised prices.

Clothing

All students: normal practice wear and ballet shoes.

Girls: plain leotard, pink tights (if possible) ballet shoes, and pointe shoes. Boys: tights, fitted t-shirt or unitard and ballet shoes.

Boys: tights, fitted t-shirt or unitard and ballet shoes

Senior Students - Contemporary for Ballet with Christopher Tudor: Clothing as above with bare feet.

Junior Students – Baroque Dance classes: If possible, please bring jazz/character shoes and track bottoms or character skirt.

In addition, students need just their outdoor clothes and usual practice clothes. Please name-tag all your personal property to prevent loss.

Student’s money

Residential students do not need to bring money with them, but may bring a little spending money should they go in to town. Non Residential students should bring money for lunch and tea.

Are There Evening Activities?

Yes, almost every evening there is something happening – either a Masterclass or demonstrations by visiting companies, or some kind of class or lecture.

Is the Internet available to use in my room?

Internet service is available to all students with the purchase of an Ethernet cable at a cost of £3. This is refundable upon the return of the cable at the end of the summer school. There is limited wifi available on campus.

Is there a student performance for Family Members?

We ask that should you wish to attend to arrive on campus for a 3pm performance.

Will I Receive Any Communication Or Welcome Pack Before The Start Of The Summer School?

No. Once you have been accepted there will be no further communication. Thereafter, everything you need to know can be found on the website and we invite you to follow us on Twitter in case of further announcements.

Liability

To the extent permitted by law, YBSS shall not be liable to any person for any damage or loss, whether of money or of property, arising from any student's failure to comply with all reasonable instructions from YBSS staff or to comply with or adhere to any term set out in our website, including the Rules.  However, this shall not exclude or limit any liability for personal injury caused by the negligence of YBSS or its employees.  Students should not submit their Applications until they have read the Rules and other terms on the website.  By submitting the Application, students will be deemed to have accepted and understood these terms.  If in doubt, please do ask us before submitting.
